Jim Katsiaficas has practiced environmental and land use law, municipal law and administrative law since 1985. He is a shareholder and director of the firm. He most recently was a Senior Staff Attorney for the Maine Municipal Association, and previously had been a director in a Portland law firm, Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Portland and Assistant Director for State and Federal Relations for the Maine Municipal Association. He advises public and private clients in the areas of municipal, land use, zoning, environmental and administrative law. In the course of his practice, he has served as town attorney for a number of Maine municipalities. He also has represented both municipal and private clients in federal Superfund and State uncontrolled hazardous substance site matters and in several Brownfield site proceedings.
Mr. Katsiaficas has served as chair of the Maine State Bar Association's Natural Resources and Environmental Law Section and its Public Sector and Government Lawyers' Section, has been the State chair for the International Municipal Lawyers Association and has been on the faculty of many Maine State Bar Association Continuing Legal Education programs.
He was a presenter on “Paper Streets Law” for a seminars on “Law of Easements, Legal Drives and Practical Considerations” (2007) and on “Maine Environmental Regulations for Design Professionals Practical Considerations and Tips: at Half Moon Seminars’ program on “Legal Issues for Maine Design Professionals” (2007). He was a presenter at a seminar on Eminent Domain Law (2006) and at a workshop seminar on Eminent Domain and Condemnation Law for the Maine Municipal Association Annual Convention (2006).
Mr. Katsiaficas resides in Portland, and is a past member of the City of Portland's Cable Television Committee and of its Land Bank Commission.
