Gordon Scannell is a director and shareholder and current Chair of the firm's Real Estate Department. He has represented individuals, business entities, including non-profits, municipalities, lenders and borrowers in all aspects of commercial and residential real estate for over 20 years. He has extensive experience in sales and acquisitions, leasing and timberlands law.

Mr. Scannell is a member of the Maine and Cumberland Bar Associations, and the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL), to which he was elected in 2004. He co-authored the Second Edition of Maine Real Estate Law and Practice, published by Thompson/ West (2007), and was a contributing editor to the Second Edition of State-by-State Guide to Commercial Real Estate Leases, published by Aspen Publishers. He is Peer Review Rated for Ethical Standards and Legal Ability by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized in Chambers USA as a leading real estate practitioner in Maine.

Mr. Scannell is a graduate of Harvard College and University of Maine School of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the Maine Law Review. Prior to entering private practice, he was a law clerk to the Hon. Edward T. Gignoux, Senior Judge, and the Hon. Gene Carter, Chief Judge, both of the United States District Court for the District of Maine.

Mr. Scannell has been an active Board member of the Royal River Conservation Trust for a number of years, and a volunteer at the Long Creek Youth Correctional Facility in South Portland. He is a past member of the Town of North Yarmouth Planning Board and Director of the Maine Real Estate Development Association (MEREDA).

Mr. Scannell is married, with 2 high school age children. He is an active runner, cross country skier, sailor and general outdoor enthusiast. He has competed in over 30 marathons since 1978.
