Bill Sheils is a shareholder and director of Perkins Thompson, having joined the firm in 1992 following a clerkship with the Justice Robert W. Clifford of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. His practice includes advising corporations, financial institutions, educational institutions, and individuals on business and commercial transactions, employment matters, immigration, and intellectual property issues. Mr. Sheils has extensive experience in petroleum marketing practices (PMPA) matters on behalf of a major regional marketer of motor fuels.
Mr. Sheils has appeared before state and federal courts and administrative agencies and regularly advises on wage and hour laws, employment contracts, terminations, discrimination and harassment, OSHA, and labor and employment matters. Mr. Sheils regularly assists the firm’s clients in registering and protecting valuable trademark rights. In connection with his broad business practice, Mr. Sheils has drafted and negotiated numerous procurement contracts, services agreements, licensing agreements, construction contracts, and motor fuel franchise and distribution agreements.
Mr. Sheils is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and the Cumberland County Bar Association, in which he formerly served as second Vice President and member of the General Committee.
Mr. Sheils is a Board member and Secretary of the Ronald McDonald House of Portland, Maine (2007) and a member of the Board of Cultivating Community (2007).
